River Check was born from a simple need: to bring river conditions and weather from a variety of sources into one convenient, easy-to-read system.
As a passionate fly angler, my trips always begin with research:

- 03What does that mean for a day’s fishing?
The information is available on council river-data and public weather websites, but gathering it and working through it carefully takes time. I knew there had to be a better way. River Check is that better way.
From a flow reading to fishing context
River Check brings together data from sources anglers already use and presents it in one clear dashboard. But knowing the flow rate is only the beginning. Five cumecs might be perfect for one river and too low for another. No two rivers are the same.
I designed River Check’s flow bands from my own fishing experience and careful analysis of how different river systems respond at different flows. The bands add practical context to a raw number, helping anglers judge the potential for fishable water. They are a starting point—not a promise of water clarity or safety—and local conditions and your own experience still matter.
River Check also gives the angling community a way to contribute observations that can help improve those bands over time. I can only fish so many rivers and days in a season; shared experience can build a better picture.

All that data creates plenty of options, so River Check lets each angler decide what matters to them. Build collections around favourite rivers, regions, different trips or different times of the season.

What River Check can—and cannot—do
River Check cannot tell you where the fish are or make that crucial first cast. It can help minimise planning time, reveal how rivers change from day to day and season to season, and help you arrive at the water with a clearer plan.
River and weather data can be delayed, provisional or incomplete. River Check is a planning aid, not official safety, flood or navigation advice. Always check local conditions and make your own call.
